This isn’t a future scenario. It’s happening right now.

Perplexity Personal Computer (launched March 12, 2026) runs on a dedicated Mac mini with “always-on, local access to the Mac’s files and apps, which Perplexity Computer and the Comet Assistant can use and alter if required.”

OpenClaw (the open-source autonomous agent) “has ‘hands,’ meaning it can execute terminal commands, browse the web, and manage your local files autonomously.”

AMD’s Agent Computers (announced literally hours ago) are positioned as devices that “run continuously, handle multiple tasks in parallel, and move across tools autonomously.”

This is the shift from personal computers (you run apps) to agent computers (AI agents run apps for you). And it requires giving AI systems the keys to your digital kingdom your files, folders, emails, photos, documents, everything.

The promise is seductive: delegate tedious work to AI, wake up to completed tasks, let autonomous agents handle busywork while you focus on high-value work.

The reality is terrifying: as of February 2026, OpenClaw has “significant security loopholes that could allow the agent to mishandle local files or grant unintended terminal access.” Northeastern University researchers found that autonomous AI agents are “easily manipulated into divulging private information” and “sharing documents they shouldn’t.”

Let me explain what’s actually happening, why companies are racing toward this future, what the security and privacy implications are, and whether you should let AI anywhere near your files.
