  • Click to add anything on your screen to a Gemini prompt

Example: You see a date in an email. Point at it, and options appear: “Schedule a meeting,” “Add to calendar,” “Check my availability.” Or point at two images your living room and a couch you’re considering and Gemini instantly visualizes them together.

Googlebooks launch this fall with more details coming before then. ChromeOS devices will continue to receive support through their existing commitment dates, and many Chromebooks will be eligible to transition to the new experience.

The Privacy and Control Question

Okay, let’s address the elephant in the room. Giving AI this level of access to your apps, messages, calendar, and screen content is… a lot. Google clearly anticipated this concern.

Explicit Opt-In: Features like Intelligent Autofill and visual context actions require you to manually enable them. They’re off by default.

Is this enough to satisfy privacy advocates? Probably not entirely. But it’s a more thoughtful approach than we’ve seen from some AI implementations.

Android Auto and Wear OS Integration

Gemini Intelligence isn’t just for phones. Here’s what’s coming to other devices:

Android Auto (Later 2026):

  • Voice-based food ordering while driving home
  • Vehicle-specific context awareness (over 100 car models from 16 brands supported)

Digital Wellbeing – Pause Point: A new middle ground between app timers (easy to snooze) and total lockouts (too restrictive). When you hit your limit, you get a 10-second breathing exercise and a prompt: “Why am I here?” You can then set a timer, view favorite photos, or jump to alternative apps. It’s designed to encourage intentional use rather than mindless scrolling.

Noto 3D Emoji: A complete emoji redesign with 3D, textured appearances. Google says it adds “physicality” to digital communication. Available first in Gboard.

iOS to Android Migration Improvements: Wireless transfer of passwords, photos, messages, apps, contacts, home screen layout, and even eSIM. Coming first to Galaxy and Pixel devices this summer.

QuickShare to AirDrop: Better cross-platform file sharing. If your device doesn’t support QuickShare directly, you can generate a QR code that iOS users scan to access files in the cloud.

The Real Test: Will It Actually Work?

Here’s the uncomfortable truth: AI assistants have been overpromising and underdelivering for years. Google Assistant was supposed to revolutionize how we interacted with our phones. It didn’t. Amazon’s Alexa was going to be our digital butler. It’s mostly a fancy kitchen timer.

People Who Love Customization: If you’ve ever wished Android could do something specific but no app existed, Create My Widget might be the solution.

Early Adopters: If you’re buying a Galaxy S26 or Pixel 10 this summer anyway, you get to test cutting-edge AI features before they’re refined and rolled out broadly.

The Bigger Picture: What This Means for Android’s Future

Gemini Intelligence represents a fundamental shift in Google’s Android strategy. They’re not just adding AI features they’re reimagining what an operating system should be.

What About Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform?

While we’re discussing Gemini, it’s worth briefly mentioning that Google also announced the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform at Google Cloud Next 2026 in April. This is the enterprise/business version of what we’re seeing in Gemini Intelligence.

  • Memory Bank: Persistent memory across interactions
  • Agent Registry: Central repository for managing multiple agents
  • 200+ Models: Access to Gemini, Claude, Gemma, and other leading models

There’s also Workspace Intelligence, which brings similar capabilities to Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Gmail, etc.) for enterprise users.

The enterprise platform is already available. The consumer Gemini Intelligence features are what’s rolling out this summer.

The Bottom Line
